Ephrem–Albert Brisebois
Brisebois was one of the few Catholic, French–Canadian men in the early days of the NWMP, and the first to be an officer on the March West. At 23 years of age, he had already served in the Union Army during the US Civil War. Brisebois' career with the NWMP was short - only three years - during which time he commanded B Division during the March West and F Division when establishing Fort Calgary.
After resigning from the NWMP, Brisebois returned to Ottawa and worked in politics. His efforts resulted in an appointment as registrar of land titles in Manitoba. During the North–West Rebellion, he raised a corps for the 65th Mount Royal Rifles and acted as adjutant in Calgary and sub–commander at Fort Edmonton until the end of the Rebellion.
