Poundmaker

Poundmaker.

Poundmaker.

Born in 1842, Poundmaker's father was Stoney while his mother was Cree. As an adult, he was adopted by Crowfoot, a Blackfoot chief. Poundmaker's influence grew and he initially opposed the signing of Treaty No. 6. It was Poundmaker's followers who looted Battleford and placed the fort under siege during the Rebellion.

Arrested for his involvement in the Rebellion, Poundmaker was tried for treason and sentenced to three years in prison. He was released after one year, sick and broken in spirit, only to die a few weeks later.
