Superintendent Lief Newby Fitzroy Crozier
Lief Newby Fitzroy Crozier, an Irish soldier, joined the NWMP in 1873. He was appointed an inspector for the March West. Crozier saw first hand the hardships faced by the Indigenous people as the buffalo disappeared.
His comments and warnings went unheeded. His march on Duck Lake and into an ambush stalled his career with the NWMP. In 1886, after the Prime Minister appointed a civilian commissioner instead of Crozier, Crozier resigned.
